Triboro's John Butler inducted into the MSHCA Hall of Fame
by posted 05/08/2012

Triboro's longtime coach and board member John Butler was recently inducted into the Mass High School Coaches Association Hall Of Fame.

John began his coaching career at Nashoba Regional in 1984 and had two successful seasons as a rookie coach. John then moved onto Marlboro High School where he was the bench boss for the Panthers for 25 seasons and accumulated an overall record between both schools of 341-187-51.

Beside the tremendous overall record, Coach Butler won the Division 3 State Title in 2005, beating Bishop Stang in TD Garden, and was a state finalist in 2004 as well. Coach Butler also has to his credit: 5 District Championships; 3 Quinn Conference and 6 Roy Conference Championships; and 4 MetroWest News Cup and 10 Borough Cup Championships; and he qualified 23 times for the MIAA tournament. Throughout all the success he always said he was blessed with hardworking and dedicated players and coaches and always made each player feel his role was important to team success.

The family starts with his wife of 30 years, Wendy, and 3 great children JR, Bob, and Alec. John’s family support has allowed him to devote time and energy to the Panther program but he has never lost his focus during his career and attributes much of his coaching success to his family. John has been fortunate to have the opportunity to coach all of his children at Marlboro High School and now finds himself still in the rink with a number of hockey programs and chasing Alec (Salve Regina) and Bob (Ottawa Senators) around the country and area.

John’s coaching career started in the youth program in Marlboro where to this day he is still involved with youth hockey as the coaching coordinator since 1985. He played his high school hockey at St. John’s of Shrewsbury, graduating in 1978. He attended both Merrimack and Bentley before moving on to play one year of Junior Hockey in Latue, Quebec before coming home to Marlboro again where he met his wife Wendy.

The State High School Coaches Association takes great pleasure in inducting Mr. John Butler into their Hall of Fame for the class of 2012.
